I have met many Christians who would go into melt-down if it was suggested that they coach a newer Christian, and excuses abound as to why that would be impossible. Some think that they would have to be perfect to do that. Well, none of us is! Others think that the task would be too overwhelming, so they run the other way. Then there are those who say that they cannot teach, and so on. But none of these excuses are really valid.
Jesus gave His disciples the mandate to go and make disciples of all the nations. So if you follow Jesus, that is your mandate too. So, if you are to make disciples who follow Jesus, how do you go about it? Do you need formal training somewhere, and have a piece of paper that qualifies you to be disciplers? Certainly not! All you have to do is to walk with a newer Christian on part of his/her life path and help them to walk where you have walked with Jesus. You don’t have to be a great theologian or teacher. All you have to do is to care enough to help them on their journey with Jesus.
